Moneliq Europe under fire: Evgeny Podberezsky ignores AML rules in Latvia
The Latvian central bank has issued a licence to SIA "Moneliq Europe" allowing the company to set up an electronic money institution (EMI).
The company is owned by Dubai-based crypto-prince Jevgēnijs Podbrezskis, a student of the notorious swindler Dmitry Celebi (recently spotted in Latvia building a yacht for a toxic oligarch).
The Bank of Latvia ignored publicly available information about BTCBIT Sp. z oo, a company fined by the Polish Ministry of Finance for serious AML violations (failure to report suspicious transactions to financial intelligence units). Since the Latvian company is wholly owned by Podberezsky, this raises legitimate questions about corruption.
A financial octopus from the UAE has built an ideal infrastructure in Latvia for the transit of capital of dubious origin, and the central bank has obligingly given this enterprise a ticket to life.
